Gertrud was born on August 3rd, 1698 in Bracht (D).  Gertrud's father was Anton Simons and her mother was Agnes Doemges.  Her paternal grandparents were Simons and Catharina? Simons?; her maternal grandparents were Reiner Doemges and Catharina Lürkens.  She had two brothers and four sisters, named Joannes, Heinrich, Catharina, Cornelia, Gertrud and Elisabeth.  She was the third oldest of the seven children.
