Joannes was born on December 12th, 1688 in Swalmen.  Joannes' father was Areth Meuter and his mother was Maria Cruijsbergh.  His paternal grandparents were Albertus Meuter and Gertrudis Wittecreemers; his maternal grandparents were Godefridus Cruijsbergh and Elisabeth Segers.  He had three brothers and eight sisters, named Joannes, Lambertus, Albertus, Gertrudis, Elisabeth, Gertrudis, Gertrudis, Mechtildis, Maria, Agnes and Gertrudis.  He was the youngest of the twelve children.  He had a half-brother named Franciscus.
