Leonard was born in Bracht (D).  Leonard's father was Mathias Terporten and his mother was Christine Erkens.  His paternal grandparents were Johann Terporten and Cornelia Petronella Compans; his maternal grandparents were Peter Erkens and Catharina Keiteler.  He had two brothers and a sister, named Jakob, Franz and Catharina.  He died on February 10th, 1775.
