Jacobus was born on July 25th, 1752 in Swalmen.  Jacobus' father was Joannes Clumpkens and his mother was Mechtildis Custers.  His paternal grandparents were Theodorus Klumpkens and Sophia Dousens; his maternal grandparents were Ludovicus Custers and Catharina Pijpers.  He had two brothers named Theodor and Bartholomeus.  He was the youngest of the three children.
