Mechtildis was born on June 21st, 1743 in Beesel.  Mechtildis' father was Jacobus van Obroeck and her mother was Gertrudis Engelen.  Her paternal grandparents were Bartholomeus van Obroeck and Catharina Meerts; her maternal grandparents were Petrus Engelen and Margaretha Clerx.  She had a brother named Joannes.  She was the older of the two children.  She had a half-brother and three half-sisters, named Jacob, Maria, Catharina and Joanna.
